The party ended on Sunday and the people who visited only for the weekend were on the way to their homes, but the holiday went on. The rest of us - John, Dar, Cassandra, Nicole, Torsten, and Michal - decided to enjoy a nice summer day on the beach in Cobourg on the shore of Lake Ontario. Cobourg lies about 60 kilometers east of Oshawa.
We arrived to Cobourg in the early afternoon. Finding the beach was not very difficult; we didn't need to circle through Cobourg more than once anyway. The parking lot was conveniently located at the beach, so the walk from the car to the beach was very short. Since it was Monday, the beach was not packed with people, which was a good thing.
We were all wearing our swimsuits underneath the usual clothing, so we didn't need to spend much time changing. We unpacked the towels, took the upper layers of clothing off, and went to test the water! Cassandra, Nicole, and Torsten were the most eager to get wet, so they were the first ones in the lake. Dar and Michal went in a little later. This was the seventh time for Michal in Canada. Splish splash!
When Dar was running back out of the water, she caught her footing on the slight embankment of the sand in the really shallow part of the water. She ended up ass over tea kettle! When she tried to stand up, an itty bitty wave knocked her over again and she landed on her back yet again in water the depth of ankles. Oops! Then all of us had to run to rescue poor Keeta and Michal then escorted her to the beach to make sure she would indeed make it to shore in one piece.
The lake near the shore was very shallow. For a while we stayed in the very shallow water and were just relaxing there. The water near the shore was very warm, almost hot, so it was very pleasant.
Dar brought a frisbee (or a flying disc), so we could play with it. She went back to the beach to bring it. John was sitting in a chair watching us and he struggled with Dar for a moment. Or they were kissing, I'm not sure!
We were playing Monkey in the middle. We were all in the water and one person was trying to catch the disc while others were passing it. If the person in the middle succeeded, the person in the middle and the person who failed to throw the disc swapped places. It was a lot of fun, especially when the wind changed the trajectory of the disc significantly.
We moved even farther away from the shore and the water got deep enough to swim. And we did - Cassandra the most. The swimming was excellent; much better than in a sea, because there was no salt water in the lake.
After about an hour we returned to the beach. Some of us went to buy French fries or icecream. For Nicole is was the perfect ending to a perfect day because you just cannot go to the beach and not have French fries with mayo and ketchup after a really nice swim.
Then we built various objects from the sand. Michal engraved a DoF greeting into the sand. Actually he did it twice, once before a little girl ran over it and once afterwards.
We would be bad Bunny Supporters if we didn't build a bunny, so Nicole and Michal started the work. The head, the ears, the body, the paws, the legs, and most importantly the heart surrounding the bunny were finished in no time.
When the bunny was finished, it was Torsten's turn. To make sure no one accidentally destroys the bunny after we leave the beach, Torsten - and then Nicole - killed the bunny. Snif... Especially Torsten was very enthusiastic in this quest; check the first picture to see how high his foot is!
Then Nicole decided to build a castle. And there's no better place to build a castle than on Torsten's legs! Although there were a few earthquakes (by pure coincidence, they happened every time Torsten moved), but in the end the simple castle was finished.
And then it was time to build a mermaid. It seems that Dar has a twin living in the water, because the upper part of the mermaid's body looked like Dar's double!
It was an excellent day, just like a holiday is supposed to be. The weather was great from the morning till the evening. The weather was so perfect that Michal got burnt by the sun, because the silly guy forgot to use sunscreen - oops.
And, as usual, Nicole and Torsten were hugging and teasing each other. Kissing too, but surprisingly none of us took any pictures of the kissing this day - which was an exception during the holiday.
