On Tuesday we went to Collingwood to see the Scenic Caves Nature Adventures. Collingwood lies about 130 kilometers north-west from Toronto. The drive was very short, only about two hours; that's nothing compared to the one hundred and twenty or so hours needed to drive across the whole Canada!
The Scenic Caves show you what the word Nature really means: the Suspension bridge will take you above a mass of green trees, you will be able to see a huge mass of water in the Georgian Bay, surrounded by the shores and countryside, and then you can take a walk around and into the caves that have been forming for millennia.
This is us, hanging around the entrance and getting ready to go buy some food and tickets. Notice what Nicole has in her hands: it's a can of Frutopia. That's why she's smiling so much! It also looks like she's fighting Torsten, because she may have thought Torsten wanted it for himself - but she would never give up her Frutopia willingly! Or are Torsten and Nicole just teasing each other?
Our first attraction in the Scenic Caves was the Suspension bridge. To reach it, we needed to take a short walk through the wood. There were a lot of warning signs telling us about the poison ivy, but none of us dared to touch it.
Everyone was smiling, especially Dar - check the first two pictures! She must have been looking forward to the Suspension bridge that much!
Before stepping on the bridge, we took a few more pictures. As you can see, everyone is still smiling!
The bridge is suspended 25 meters above the valley and it's about 125 meters long. The bridge swings a little as people walk on it. Even though Dar and Torsten do not like heights, they bravely crossed it - though check the following pictures to see who was always holding the railing. Kudos to both of you! And they didn't complain more than once anyway, although you can see that Please hurry look in Torsten's eyes on the photos!
Dar was so happy when we reached the land again. She was smiling very much! You can almost hear her saying Oh, I'm sooo glad I don't have to cross the bridge again! But notice Nicole's look and her hand; she looks like she's telling John (who was taking the picture) Wait till you see her expression when I tell her something about the road!
But what is that? Dar looks very surprised on the next picture. Did I hear her say What? Nicole is pointing her hand to the closed road behind the bridge, so the only way back is to cross the bridge again.
If you check the next picture carefully, you will see that I hate you all look in Dar's face. It's almost like she's trying to tell us that she will throw us all from the bridge.
After a short while, we started to walk back. Well most of us anyway; Dar started to run really fast. And when we made it to the other end again, Dar was already sitting there and almost kissing the ground!
The funniest thing is that John knew that the road was closed, because he had checked the Scenic Caves website beforehand. He didn't tell anyone though, because no one asked. When he told Dar, we heard I sooo hate you! a few more times! That was fun!
The view from the Suspension bridge was indeed spectacular. We were able to see the other shore of the Georgian Bay, which is 30 kilometers away from the Suspension bridge. If you look carefully, you will see white lines on the opposite shore of the Georgian Bay - that's Wasaga beach.
I have also taken two movies of the surrounding area.
